Manufacturing processes

The pellets can be manufactured by two different processes:

The dry route

A simple and relatively cheap process of dry production of pellets from a mixture of cereal products.

Disadvantages:

  • Crumbly pellets, disintegrating easily into dust,
  • The pellets dissolve rapidly in rain.

 The damp route

A more complex process to produce pellets, used by Clartex.

The manufacture starts from selected flour or durum wheat. By adding water a mixture is obtained similar to pasta which is extruded through a mould pierced with holes.

 Avantages :

  • Non friable high quality pellets, which swell in the presence of humidity without disintegrating,
  • Very appetising to slugs,
  • 3 weeks persistent activity (for a rainfall of 30 to 40 mm/week) .
